【Press Release】9th August, 2017
HelpMeSee presented, in collaboration with A New Vision, a Singapore Charitable Organisation, a charity photo exhibition, titled “Snap the Vision”. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was successfully held on 4th August, with Mark Cheung, Managing Director of HelpMeSee Hong Kong, Effi Jono, founder of A New Vision, HelpMeSee Hong Kong Ambassador, Leanne Szeto and volunteer Singaporean photographer Lee Siew Yian as the officiating guests.
This is the first charity photo exhibition of HelpMeSee in Hong Kong to showcase its work as an International Charitable Organisation fighting against cataract and share the joy of the cataract patients who had their sights restored.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mark Cheung, Managing Director of HelpMeSee Hong Kong, said: “We wish that through this charity photo exhibition, we can enhance public awareness of cataract-blindness and spread our vision of ‘With your help, I can see now’,” Mark added, “We hope that through our work, we not only give hopes to cataract patients, but also light up the lives of their families as they may give up their dreams to take care of the patients.”
Effi Jono, founder of A New Vision, echoed with Mark: “The cataract patient is not the only person who suffers, but also his/ her family members. The whole family gets trapped deeper in poverty. The most tragic thing is that this person may not be blind because it can be cured. Cataract surgery is the most cost-effective and impactful method…When we restore the sight, we restore not just the life of one person, but also many people.”
HelpMeSee has been partnering with A New Vision for its Indonesia programmes since 2015, which focus on eliminating cataract blindness. Indonesia Vision Campaign in 2016 was showcased in the exhibition. All photos were taken by Lee Siew Yian, passionate volunteer Singaporean photographer, who has dedicated herself to humanitarian work.
As HelpMeSee Hong Kong Ambassador and Hong Kong Triathlon athlete, Leanne Szeto attended the opening ceremony to share her vision of inspiring more people to be aware of the problem of cataract blindness and encourage them to join HelpMeSee to ignite hopes to the beneficiaries. Busking Team -Endless, and talented students – Eugene and Eddie from Chemical Music performed at the ceremony and shared their enthusiasm and positivity through their music.
The exhibition was opened from 4th to 8th August at Covered Piazza of Times Square in Causeway Bay. The exhibition included HelpMeSee’s work in Africa, India, China… etc and the patients’ stories.
