HelpMeSee Hong Kong appointed former Hong Kong Triathlon Team Member, Leanne Szeto, as the Ambassador, aiming at raising public awareness of ending cataract blindness worldwide, which is also the mission of the Organisation. Leanne will go hand in hand with HelpMeSee to bring a bright future to cataract patients, by promoting global cataract programmes and sustainable solutions.
At the age of 14, Leanne joined Hong Kong Junior Triathlon Squad and came at 8th place in The 2014 Incheon Asian Games. She was the Female Winner in The TNF100 2017 earlier this year, as well as the first runner-up of Female Half Marathon Challenge in The Hong Kong Standard Chartered Marathon. In recent years, she participated in different sports events around the world, including different charity runs. She is also a running instructor. Being a big lover of the colour pink, she is called “Pink Big Brother” by her friends.
Leanne received the Certificate of Appointment from Mark Cheung, Managing Director of HelpMeSee Hong Kong, officially becoming the Ambassador. Leanne said, “It’s my honour to be appointed as the Ambassador of HelpMeSee. I wish to help more cataract patients receive proper treatment, so that they can restore their healthy and clear vision, enabling them to pursue their own dreams. I am also keen to inspire more people to be aware of the problem of cataract blindness and encourage them to join HelpMeSee to ignite hopes to the beneficiaries.”
Mark Cheung, Managing Director of HelpMeSee Hong Kong, said, “It is our pleasure to have Leanne Szeto as our Ambassador. Leanne is a very tough and brave athlete. We hope that she can further promote our mission and vision to the public.”
Meanwhile, HelpMeSee Hong Kong also appointed Benny Li as Ambassador of HelpMeSee Hong Kong. He often participated in different local and international long-distance running race, including different charity runs in recent years. Benny believes that personally taking part in the good cause is the most direct way to do charity. Through sharing his personal experience, he hopes that he can encourage his family and friends to try to understand more and care more about the vulnerable groups of the world, to let more cataract patients to restore sights by receiving proper and timely treatment.
HelpMeSee, headquartered in New York, USA, is an international non-profit organisation which is committed to ending cataract blindness, the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Established in June 2016, HelpMeSee Hong Kong is served as the liaison office in the Asia Pacific region, aiming at raising public awareness on the mission and vision of the Organisation, through corporate partnership, street fundraising and educational events.
With a focus on surgical training, we are determined to make sure those with greatest need can get the help. Since 2012, HelpMeSee has partnered with 293 surgeons and provided over 250,000 sight-restoring surgeries across over 10 countries, including India, China, Madagascar, Nepal, Peru, Indonesia and Vietnam etc. HelpMeSee restored the sight for a cataract patient every 11 minutes.
